General CBD Questions
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a natural component of the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. It’s part of a family of compounds known as cannabinoids that occur naturally in cannabis plants. CBD extracts have traditionally been used for medicinal purposes.
Unlike THC, the primary cannabinoid in marijuana, CBD won’t get you high. It’s important to note that CBD is still psychoactive, just not in the same way as THC. CBD alters your brain chemistry but does not cause intoxication or feelings of euphoria. CBD promotes mental clarity and balance. The World Health Organization (WHO) regards CBD as a safe and non-addictive substance with no known adverse side effects.
Why do I need CBD?
All mammals, including humans, have an endocannabinoid system, or ECS as its commonly referred. Your ECS is a system comprised of endocannabinoids (lipid-based neurotransmitters), receptors, and enzymes located mainly in the brain and nervous system but spread throughout the entire body. Your ECS is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, a state of internal equilibrium. When your ECS becomes imbalanced or depleted due to chronic illness, unhealthy lifestyle choices, or other environmental factors, you may start to experience unwanted or negative symptoms.
CBD works by restoring balance to your ECS. Anybody can benefit from CBD support, even those without a specific ailment. But it can be especially beneficial for those experiencing an internal imbalance, as it helps re-calibrate the body back to a state of equilibrium. Taking CBD on a daily basis provides support to your ECS and promotes an overall sense of well-being.
How will CBD make me feel?
CBD promotes balance. Some report feeling more present, clear, and focused. Daily stressors may feel less impactful, and many report an improved sense of well-being.
Does CBD come from marijuana?
CBD comes from Cannabis sativa L., also known as industrial hemp, which is the genetic cousin to the Marijuana plant, or Cannabis Sativa.
CBD is the isolated chemical compound found in hemp, that when extracted and concentrated, contains a wide array of therapeutic properties.
What's a cannabinoid?
A cannabinoid is a class of diverse chemical compounds that acts on cannabinoid receptors (as part of the Endocannabinoid System, or ECS) in cells that alter neurotransmitter release in the brain. The two most notable cannabinoids are THC and CBD, but there are at least 113 different cannabinoids isolated from cannabis.
What is anandamide?
Anandamide is an endocannabinoid produced by the body that plays a role in pain, depression, appetite, memory, and fertility. The root word “Ananda” comes from the Sanskrit word for “bliss.” Also called the “bliss molecule,” the anandamide molecules are modulators that impact how other systems in the body and brain work.
CBD’s primary mode of action has to do with raising the body’s levels of anandamide. CBD blocks FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase), the enzyme responsible for breaking down anandamide. When CBD blocks FAAH from breaking down anandamide, it allows anandamide to accumulate within the body. Having adequate or increased levels of anandamide helps to bring the body into homeostasis or an optimal state of balance. The long term balancing effects of CBD are a result of increased anandamide levels within the body.
Is CBD safe?
CBD is considered very safe, with minimal side effects for most people. CBD doesn’t affect the brain stem, where vital functions like breathing are controlled, so there is no risk of overdose. In the World Health Organization’s (WHO) extensive report on CBD, the organization found it to be a non-addicting substance, and that there were “no case reports of abuse or dependence relating to the use of pure CBD.”
If you plan on taking CBD, it’s recommended that you speak with your doctor first. CBD is known to have a similar effect as grapefruit in inhibiting the metabolization of certain medications by deactivating key enzymes in the liver that process and breakdown pharmaceuticals.
Will CBD make me feel high?
Unlike THC, the primary cannabinoid in marijuana, CBD won’t get you high or produce feelings of intoxication.
It’s important to note that CBD is still psychoactive, just not in the same way as THC. CBD alters your brain chemistry but does not cause intoxication or feelings of euphoria. CBD promotes mental clarity and balance.
Is CBD addictive?
The World Health Organization (WHO) regards CBD as a safe and non-addictive substance with no known adverse side effects.
Is CBD safe for my pet?
There are many case studies and anecdotal evidence on the efficacy of CBD for pets, yet the scientific research for use in pets is still limited. Preliminary research shows that the endocannabinoid system of a dog and cat is similar to that of a human, and therefore may benefit from the therapeutic use of CBD.
Our Broad Spectrum K9 Formula was designed specifically for dogs and cats, with a touch of liver for flavor. It’s recommended that you speak to your veterinarian before administering CBD to your pet.
I’m pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I consume CBD?
It is the current consensus that pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from using CBD or CBD products. It is recommended that you speak with your healthcare professional before trying CBD while pregnant or nursing.
Can I take CBD if I’m on medication?
CBD has a similar effect on medication as grapefruit (“the grapefruit effect”). It can affect the way certain drugs are processed and broken down by the liver. Like grapefruit, CBD can boost levels of certain medications in your blood, or alternatively, could render them less effective. If your doctor has advised avoiding grapefruit while on your current medication, then CBD should also be avoided. The exception would be topical CBD creams, as they do not enter the bloodstream through the skin. Always speak to your doctor before introducing a new substance.
I suffer from a health condition. Will CBD oil help me?
CBD oil is not classified as a pharmaceutical or dietary supplement by the FDA, and as such, no claims can be made about its medicinal benefits. We cannot legally make any medical recommendations regarding CBD, including if it can treat specific conditions.
There is an abundance of information regarding CBD online, including firsthand accounts from others who suffer from various medical conditions and have benefitted from the use of CBD. You can also try searching online for scientific and medical studies related to CBD by typing in the search bar the specific ailment you are trying to research + CBD. There are hundreds of scientific reports and journals available to read online for free.
And as always, it's recommended that you talk to your healthcare practitioner before introducing any new substance.
HempLand® USA Questions
What makes HempLand® USA unique?
HempLand’s CBD is grown and extracted entirely in the USA. While both hemp and CBD extract are often imported from China, India, and South America, all of our farms and facilities are located right here in the US. This allows us to maintain strict quality control measures at every step of the production process to ensure we are providing only pure, high-quality CBD oil to our customers.
We use an independent lab to test all of our products for purity and potency, so you can be assured that our CBD is free of contaminants and is safe to use.
Where is your hemp sourced from?
HempLand’s CBD is sourced from our proprietary hemp strain grown in greenhouses and outdoor farms in California and Colorado.
Is your hemp organic?
Our hemp is grown using organic farming methods and is free of dangerous pesticides and toxins. We use a solvent-free extraction method to ensure the extraction process is contaminant free.
What type of extraction method do you use?
We use Supercritical CO2 extraction. (CO2) Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring chemical compound composed of two oxygen atoms, each covalently double-bonded to a single carbon atom. By lowering the temperature of carbon dioxide and putting it under high pressure, carbon dioxide becomes a liquid that can draw hemp oil from the hemp plant.
Supercritical CO2 extraction is the most gentle and natural way to extract hemp oil without damaging its delicate molecular structure or losing any of its health-supporting constituents. Furthermore, by using Supercritical CO2 extraction, our full-spectrum hemp oil has absolutely no residual volatile solvents.
Do you use a third-party lab to test and analyze your products?
Yes, we use third-party testing for every batch of CBD. These tests ensure quality and purity. If a particular batch does not meet our standard of excellence, we do not release it for sale. We have the lab results available for viewing on each product page of our website.
Does your CBD contain THC?
Our full-spectrum CBD contains the whole plant extract, including parts of the hemp stems, stalks, leaves, and flowers, which contain hundreds of beneficial phytochemicals that work synergistically to enhance the overall effectiveness of CBD (also known as the “entourage effect”). For those looking for a well-rounded experience, we suggest our full-spectrum hemp products. These products contain less than 0.3% THC.
For those looking to benefit from pure CBD without any additional cannabinoids like THC, we suggest any of our Broad Spectrum THC free products.
Are your products gluten-free and vegan-friendly?
All HempLand® USA products are gluten-free and safe for those wishing to avoid gluten for health reasons. All HempLand® USA tinctures are vegan-friendly. Please note that our Soft Gels are not vegan, as they contain marine gelatin.
Which CBD product is right for me?
Selecting a product that will work best for you has to do with your individual preferences and desired effect. For full-body balancing, many people start with CBD tinctures, as they have high bioavailability (the amount that ends up in your bloodstream) and are relatively easy to dose and customize.
Other people may prefer soft gels to take on-the-go and for easy portability. Soft gels offer the same full-body balancing effect as tinctures but are slightly less bioavailable due to having to pass through the digestive tract before entering the bloodstream.
CBD topical creams and lotions offer localized relief to specific areas of concern. Topical CBD works by interacting with cannabinoid receptors located in the top layers of skin. Since it does not enter the bloodstream, topical CBD is fast-acting, and many will notice that the onset of relief is quick. Topicals are easy to use, offer instantaneous relief to areas such as muscles and joints, and are convenient to take on-the-go.
Since topicals only interact with ECS receptors within the skin, they do not offer the same full-body balancing benefits of an ingestible CBD. Many people incorporate both forms of CBD into their daily routine to experience the dual benefits of both instant and long-term relief.
How do I store my CBD products?
CBD products are best stored in a cool, dry, dark place with the lid tightly sealed. CBD products should be stored out of the reach of children and pets.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Most of our products have a shelf life of 3 years and are labeled with the expiration date.

How long do the effects of the Therapeutic Cream last?
The effects of our Therapeutic Cream can last up to eight hours. However, if you are sweating or using it while in water, it can be applied more frequently.
How do I take CBD oil?
We offer three different ways of integrating CBD into your health routine.
Our original CBD oil comes in a glass bottle with a dropper, and the drops can be mixed with food or beverages or taken directly into the mouth and swallowed. Some prefer to place drops under the tongue (sublingually) for maximum absorption.
We also offer CBD oil in a soft gel. It's the same high-quality CBD oil, but in a gelatin capsule for ease and convenience, especially when traveling.
To target specific areas of concern, we have a CBD therapeutic cream that’s rubbed into the skin directly where it’s needed.
How do I figure out my dosage?
While dosing is not a one-size-fits-all, we generally recommend a gradual approach. Each individual is different with different needs. To start out, you can take a few drops throughout the day, instead of one large dose. Use these same ratios over the course of a few days and observe how you feel. Adjust the dose as necessary. Many find that the “less is more” approach works for them when first starting out with CBD. Feel free to experiment, but be mindful as your body adjusts to the product.
Many people take a couple weeks to a month to reach their ideal dose.
CBD also has a cumulative effect while the body stores the compound in the fatty tissues until it gets metabolized. Because of this, you may not notice the balancing effects that CBD has on the ECS right away, but just give it time! It can take up to 1-2 months to experience the full balancing effects of CBD.

What are clones?
Clones are cuttings taken from the top of our mother plants. The cuttings will then be planted and will grow into the exact genetic replicas of the plant from which they were cut. Maintaining the exact genetics throughout our entire grow is extremely important because our particular strain of hemp has been carefully bred for years to produce high amounts of health supporting constituents. Cloning is the best way to ensure the integrity of our proprietary hemp strain.
What is the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil extract?
Hemp seed oil has a high concentration of essential fatty acids, protein, and vitamins. The oil is removed from hemp seeds by cold-pressing. Hemp oil extract has a high concentration of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other health-supporting constituents. This oil is removed from the aerial (above ground) plant parts by Supercritical CO2 extraction. When hemp seed oil and hemp oil extract are combined, they provide the full-spectrum of health-supporting constituents from the hemp plant.
What is Supercritical CO2 extraction?
Supercritical CO2 is the phase of CO2 where distinct liquid and gas phases do not exist. Supercritical CO2 passes through plant mass like a gas, and dissolves oil like a liquid (solvent). When CO2 returns to its distinct gas phase it separates from the oil leaving a solvent free extraction.
Can I travel with CBD?
As of December 2018, CBD was made legal in all 50 U.S. states under the Farm Bill. The bill designated Cannabis sativa L. with less than 0.3% THC as an agricultural commodity and declassified it as a Schedule 1 drug.
When traveling in the U.S., as long as you comply with TSA regulations regarding carrying on liquids, you shouldn’t have a problem bringing hemp-derived CBD on flights.
It's still a good idea to check the laws in your destination state. Even though CBD products are now federally legal, certain states still have laws that make individual possession of CBD illegal.
For international travel, use your discretion. Research is essential in determining other country’s laws and regulations.
My job requires drug-testing. Will I pass if I consume CBD?
Most drug tests screen for the cannabinoid THC, not CBD. If your place of employment requires drug-testing, it is the recommendation to avoid all full-spectrum hemp products as these products contain a minimal amount of THC (<0.3%). Our THC Free products contain zero THC.
