What CBD Dosage is Right For You?
As it turns out, there is no right answer to this question because each individual is different. Factors that influence each person’s ideal dose include genetics, weight, diet, environment, and product consistency, making it nearly impossible to determine a one-size-fits-all recommended dose. Furthermore, even licensed physicians cannot make dosage recommendations because there are no established recommended daily allowance (RDA) or universal dosage guidelines. Because there are no recommended guidelines, the suggestions contained here serves as informational only, and should not be considered as medical advice.
CBD Dosing Rule of Thumb
A good rule of thumb to follow when first taking CBD is to start with a low dose and then gradually increase it until you start to notice relief from symptoms.
Many find that the “less is more” approach works well as a starting point. It is common to experiment with increasing CBD levels when trying to find your ideal dose, but be mindful as your body adjusts to the product.
To begin, many will experiment by taking a few drops spread throughout the day, instead of one or two large doses. This way, you will become familiar with any changes that may occur within the body. Use these same ratios over the course of a few days and observe how you feel. If you have not experienced relief from symptoms or have not achieved the desired effects of CBD, you can then adjust the dose as necessary by gradually increasing it over the course of a few days to a week— but be sure that you are consistent with each new dose for at least a few days before increasing it.
Keep a Symptom Journal
Others have found it helpful to keep a daily symptom journal and notate the particular amount of CBD taken each day. Tracking the days you experience a decrease in symptoms will help to further identify which dosage yields the most benefits. Once people find their ideal dose, many remain on a consistent “daily dose” to maintain the levels of CBD in their system.
The CBD Dosing Bell Curve
CBD is biphasic, meaning that very high and very low doses could produce an opposite effect other than what's intended. At very high doses, CBD may cause sedation. Too low of a dose may not produce the desired effects, or do much of anything at all.
An easy way to remember optimal CBD dosing is to think of it as a bell curve, with the ideal dose being at the peak of the curve (a medium dose). A moderate dose should produce a mildly energizing effect, while also providing relief from symptoms.
CBD’s Cumulative Effect
CBD becomes more effective the more consistently and the longer you take it so that it can build up in your body over time. CBD is stored in the fatty tissues until it gets metabolized, creating an accumulation throughout the body. Because of this, you may not feel the full range of health benefits from CBD right away, but be patient and give your body time to experience the natural balancing properties that CBD promotes.
CBD Helps Restore Balance
CBD works with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to restore balance. The ECS is the human body’s most important regulatory system and controls nearly every bodily function through a vast system of receptors in the immune system and the central and peripheral nervous systems. If the body’s ECS is imbalanced, you may experience pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, insomnia, poor focus, or poor memory. CBD supports the ECS and works to counteract imbalances by restoring the body back to homeostasis.
By supporting the body’s ECS, CBD promotes a sense of overall balance and well-being. Maintaining a stable level of CBD by taking it regularly increases the efficacy of the body’s ECS as a whole.
