How is CBD extracted?

CBD is extracted from the aerial, or fully exposed, parts of the hemp plant, including the stems, stalks, leaves, and flowers. HempLand® USA produces two variations of CBD-- one category that contains the whole plant extract (full-spectrum), or products that contain only pure isolated CBD, and each can be used for different reasons. For those looking for a more rounded experience, we suggest the full-spectrum products. The hemp plant contains hundreds of beneficial phytochemicals including terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids and many of these substances possess their own properties while working synergistically to enhance the effectiveness of the CBD-- also known as the “entourage effect.” There’s even hard science to back it up. In a study done by Hadassah Medical School in 2015, a whole plant extract was found to be more effective in treating patients than pure CBD isolate^[1]. For those looking to benefit from pure CBD without any additional cannabinoids like THC, we suggest our range of products that contain CBD Isolate.

CBD-rich cannabis extracts were formerly widely available and were routinely prescribed by physicians in the 19th century. There were few restrictions on the sale of these products throughout the US and Europe, and they were historically used by doctors to treat a vast array of ailments. CBD gradually fell out of favor as the psychotropic effects of marijuana became recognized, and plants were bred to contain higher and higher levels of THC and far lower levels of CBD. Only recently have CBD-rich strains of the hemp plant started to be cultivated intensively again.

HempLand® USA uses a gentle CO2 extraction process that is free of high heat and harmful solvents-- this process does not alter the natural structure or properties of the CBD. All of our CBD products contain a base of pure hemp oil. Hemp seed oil is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant and is high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. While it doesn’t contain beneficial cannabinoids on its own, hemp seed oil makes an excellent, nutrient-rich companion for our CBD extract, more importantly, your body makes and maintains your endocannabinoid system by utilizing essential fatty acids, specifically the ones contained in hemp seed oil.

Our natural CBD extract is also grown and extracted entirely in the USA. While both hemp and CBD extract are often imported from China, India, and South America, all of our partner networks of licensed farms and greenhouses are located right here in the US in the states of California and Colorado.
